Sun Drenched Extension
Before
The owners of a small older style fibro cottage needed extra space for a growing family. It was important that they could continue to live in the home during construction with minimal disruption. In order to do this it was decided to first add a large extension at the rear connected to the original house only by a narrow linking corridor.
The extension was located along the southern boundary to create a sun drenched courtyard to the north. The wedge shaped corridor leads to the large open plan living dining kitchen area and has a separate low pitched roof to allow north facing clearstory windows to the bedrooms and bathroom of this section for solar gain and cross ventilation.

After completing stage one the old house could be extensively remodelled without disruption to the family. With a new dramatic entry and attached garage the final design now has a modern contemporary look.
